Women at the Helm
Cinema, Kambri Cultural Centre
Kambri Precinct – 154 University Ave, Acton ACT
- Thursday 13 July, 12.30PM - 1.30PM
Event Description
It is estimated that by 2026, Australia will have up to 30,000 unfilled cyber security and ICT positions with only 2,000 cyber graduates produced each year (ACS, 2022). If Australia and the ACT are to fill this job shortage there needs to be a multi-pronged approach towards training, accessibility and industry awareness of the cyber security sector.
One specific area of focus is towards women with those who are currently in the field playing a critical role in the cyber landscape. A recent study by RMIT into the Australian Security Industry Workforce found, however, that when using census data, women only comprised 17% of Australia’s cyber security workforce.
The Women at the Helm panel discussion seeks to unpack the reasons why there is only 17% and explore some of the perceived barriers to the industry including imposter syndrome versus the Dunning-Kruger effect within the workplace, the wish to foster a work environment whereby all may ask questions without fear and the importance of finding the right mentor, no matter the gender.
