Imagine the Future – Mural Painting Workshop with Faith Kerehona

Imagine the Future - Mural Painting Workshop with Faith Kerehona

AD Hope Building, ANU
Tangney Road, Acton ACT

Event Description

A research-inspired science communication street art mural created on the ANU Campus – with you! Live!

How do we imagine the future of research? What does the student of the future look like? How do we envision the future of our planet and our future society through the lens of different research fields?

Join us and find out! Visual art in public spaces – public art – evokes visceral, emotional responses and stimulates the imagination by appealing to the affective domain of learning. For example, science-related and environmental art can promote agency and inspire feelings of hope, responsibility and caring to create openness beyond the human world – to increase awareness and creativity to address complex problems. With this in mind, we will transform one of the ANU buildings – the facade of the AD Hope building – into an inspiring, beautiful, research-based street art mural dedicated to the theme “IMAGINE THE FUTURE”. This colourful mural is a brainchild of ANU academics and students, developed and designed in collaboration with three fantastic street artists – James Houlcroft (aka Houl), Byrd and Faith Kerehona – and you can be part of the process and our public discussions about street art, science and engagement!

Be part of our “Imagine the Future” mural project, learn how street artists create their artworks and get creative yourself – with Faith Kerehona!

Faith‘s professional ethos is centred around community-oriented public art. She is interested in the intersection between Public Art and Social Work practices and the engagement of diverse communities in co-creation projects that are owned, situated in, and generated by communities. This motivated her to undertake a double Bachelor of Visual Art and Sociology. Faith prioritises empowerment, accessibility and participation. Her purposeful engagement with the community in art-making has awarded her achievements such as being a recipient of the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship, a speaker at TEDx 2020 and a recipient of a solo exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra.
