Robotic Zen

Robotic Zen

City Walk (Next door to the David Jones Entry adjacent to the City Walk lawns)

Event Description

Delve into the tranquil space of ‘Robotic Zen’ from 7-16 July 2023, where robotics, digital design, and ancient spiritual practices converge. This unique venture invites participants to a serene immersion at the crossroads of technology and mindfulness.

Stepping away from the usual technological showcases, ‘Robotic Zen’ harmoniously melds the precision of robotics with mindfulness practices like pattern drawing and pebble raking. Here, robots transition from being symbols of automation to become mediators of peace and introspection.

As you watch the robotic arm sketching intricate patterns on a sand canvas with a hypnotic steadiness, let the calm envelop you. The ebb and flow of creation and erasure mirrors the transience in our lives, providing a pathway to introspection and serenity.

‘Robotic Zen’ questions traditional associations with technology, encouraging viewers to see robotics and computation as channels for human expression and spiritual balance. This invites a dialogue about the potential of human-robot interaction beyond task-oriented utility, steering towards emotional wellbeing.

Led by the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design, and School of Design and Built Environment, ‘Robotic Zen’ invites you to step into ‘Uncharted Territory’ and find tranquillity amidst the whirl of robotic motion.

Don’t miss this mesmerising blend of tradition and technology in Canberra. Be a part of a wider discussion on the future of robotics in society, and you might just discover your zen in the rhythmic harmony of our robotic artist.

Robotic Zen is presented by the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design and the School of Design and the Built Environment in a collaborative partnership with the City Renewal Authority through the Second Space Program. Made possible by the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy, augmented by the generous contribution of the Canberra Centre. The project has been supported through a partnership with Events ACT.
